Remedial Massage
What is Remedial Massage?
Once therapists locate tense muscular tissue they use manual manipulation to realign the body and get it working functionally. Massage of these tense areas helps speed up the body’s own repair mechanisms so you can return to and maintain optimal health.
How will it help me?
If you are suffering from:
- Headaches and shoulder or neck pain
- Hip and leg pain
- Pain between the shoulder blades
- Lower back pain
- Running pain, including shin splints, ITB tightness, patella tracking problems
- Tendonitis, bursitis or fibrosis
- Delayed onset muscle soreness from exercise
- Postural imbalances
- Sciatica (pressure on nerves in the lower back)
then remedial massage can help you.
Key benefits include improved posture and circulation, allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed, the calming of the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort, and the toning and relaxing of muscles to improve joint mobility. An improvement to the health of the cells, the repairing of tissues, and the easing of stiffness and tension are also achieved.

When will I see results?
While you may feel a little sore, you should start to feel a greater ease of movement in the affected areas. If this has been an ongoing problem for you then you may require a few massages before you start to see significant results. This is because the body and your brain will feel the pull to go back to old habits, such as poor posture if you work at a desk for long periods. We all need to counter balance these imbalances with stretching, exercise and massage. Your therapist may recommend stretches, heat packs or ice to help speed up your recovery and increase movement. It is recommended that you drink a lot of water after your massage to flush out toxins brought out through the massage.
Remedial massage can help maintain optimum health and prevent further injuries.
We suggest continuing your massage treatments once your injury has healed, although you won’t need to visit as frequently.
For example, if you work in an office, sitting at a desk for hours can leave you with neck, shoulder and/or back pain. We can treat the source of your pain and help the areas heal, but the pain is likely to return if the same activity continues. While we treat your problem areas you may need to visit weekly but once the area has healed you may only need to visit monthly or bi-monthly to maintain a pain-free body.
